The Sum Has Been Paid

October 31st daily blog devotional by Keith Wayne Edwards

Hebrews 8

Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

Matthew 27:50,51

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.

In the old testament, the presence of God dwelt within the holy of holies which was the inner sanctuary in the tabernacle where the veil of the temple separated the holy place from the holy of holies. When Jesus took His last breath on the cross something extraordinary happened that literally shook those present. A great earthquake came and the veil of the temple was torn from top to bottom. The reason for this is God is showing us even today that the way into His presence now is not through the old tabernacle but through Jesus for He is the veil. All we have to have now is faith to enter in, and this faith cannot be obtained through our flesh but through our spirit. I want you to close your eyes and picture something that will help you walk down that road God paved for you to walk down in your calling to Him. Picture yourself looking at the veil that was torn. As you stand there you hear God say, "Child, what do you see?" I see the veil that was torn. Then God says to you, "Look again!" As you look you see that there is about five feet left at the bottom not completely torn. Then with discouragement, you turn to walk away and the Lord says to you, "Child, turn around and look again." You turn and see that it's torn all the way from top to bottom. You see, God didn't just do a half work on the cross but yet we see ourselves as an incomplete work of justification in our born again conversion at times. Although we grow in the Lord through spiritual growth we have been complete in Christ through His crucifixion and resurrection.

Yes, the debt has been paid. If you read Hebrews 8, it says this is the SUM. Jesus is the highest priest ever. He paid it in full, and our faith in Him is the Avenue by which all saints separated unto God can enter in and receive from Him, whether healing, salvation, the infilling of the Spirit of God once and for all and perpetually through being filled. This church should be throughout our journey here on earth as ambassadors of Christ. Oh that we may be clothed with His Spirit and walk in what we have received. May we be established in this state of grace, established on better promises. God was and is the perfect lamb that was slain for us. We are established on a new and final covenant, and the SUM has been paid to the fullest measure.

Lord, help us examine ourselves as we enter you presence. Help us to have a revelation of the total sum that has been paid by your Son. Help us to see that the cross was enough to give us eternal life, and to also bring us to a revelation of that right standing with You Father God by the new covenant we received.
